What is California Coastal Horse
Rescue's adoption policy?
The adoption contract provides that the horse will never be
sold, given away, or disposed of in any manner other than
returning to California Coastal Horse Rescue.
Where do the horses come from?
Most of the horses come from owners who can no longer care
for them. Some are abandoned at local boarding stables. We also
care for sport horses that can no longer perform in their sport.
Does California Coastal Horse Rescue
impound neglected horses?
No, we do not have the authority to take a horse from
someone. We are a shelter and take horses by donation. We can
care for horses at
the request of state and local agencies.
Does California Coastal Horse Rescue
take any horse?
Usually, but we are a small organization with limited
resources. Our goal is to place as many horses in new homes as
possible.
Can I adopt a horse if I have never
owned a horse?
Yes. We do require someone with little or no experience to
work with the horse in our care to gain experience before
letting the horse go to its new home. We are always available to
answer questions or help if needed.
